The Reds had also hoped to unveil fellow new signing Elliot Lee, also a product of the Hammers’ Academy system, but a delay in paperwork meant the striker’s signing is expected to be concluded this morning.

Defender Andy Yiadom, who signed for the club back on 16 May, will also be officially unveiled at a press conference with manager Paul Heckingbottom at Oakwell today .

“I can’t wait to get going,” said Moncur, who joined the Reds for an undisclosed fee after the club paid his former club Colchester compensation for the deal. “I really like the way Paul presented the club and I think it’s going to be great for me this year playing in the Championship.

“I know it’s a higher level but if I play how I know I can, then I believe I can make the step up and continue to progress.”

Moncur scored twice against the Reds last season and also revealed he is excited about teaming up with former teammate Lee, with whom he impressed with for the U’s last term.

“We’ve been tracking George’s progress for some time so I’m absolutely delighted to get this transfer over the line,” admitted Heckingbottom. “He’s a huge talent and was a stand-out player for Colchester last season so it’s a coup.”

Lee is expected to sign a two-year deal today with the Reds having paid an undisclosed fee for the 21-year-old.

Meanwhile, former Reds defenders George Smith and George Williames have signed for Gateshead (one-year deal) and MK Dons (two-year deal) respectively.
