Barnsley: Hammill responds to claims of Morais fall-out

The experienced winger has struggled to cement a spot in Morais’ plans, but he said: “Me and the gaffer get on fine. I’ve got no idea where these rumours have come from.

“I’ve learnt a lot from him already. I’m like a sponge and willing to learn, even at my age.”

The players have held a secret meeting to thrash out their on-field issues and goalkeeper Nick Townsend suffered a broken finger during a training-ground bust-up with defender Dimitri Cavare.

“There are things that go in training,” Hammill said. “If you ask me, it’s good because I would rather people show a bit passion and and heart and frustration than not be fussed by what’s going on.

“Like a lot of things, it has been blown out of proportion.

“Everyone in the dressing room gets on with each other, respects each other as a player and person and gives everything for each other on the pitch. There is not a problem.”

Hammill wears his heart on his sleeve and has previously admitted he would love to end his playing days at the club.

He has urged his teammates to topple Bolton in their Championship relegation six-pointer tomorrow, saying: “There are 10,000 fans out there who’d love to wear the shirt.

“We have to go out there on Saturday and show them that we want this.

“We will put in a display for them because they deserve it.”

Barnsley can leapfrog Bolton and move out of the drop zone with victory.

And they have a game in hand over their rivals which could prove pivotal in their fight for survival.

With just five matches left, they need to turn their faltering form around after just three wins in their last 27 outings.
