Barnsley goal hero eager for Wembley return

Brownhill finished off the Reds’ 4-1 win over Wigan in fine style on Sunday, hammering home a stunning free-kick from 30 yards out.

The talented 20-year-old has been a mainstay in the centre of midfield since joining on loan in January.

And he expressed his joy at scoring his second Barnsley screamer in front of the huge away following, and hopes he can continue to have a big impact in the upcoming play-off semi-final matches against Walsall.

“To look behind the goal and see that many Barnsley fans that had travelled was brilliant,” said the Preston North End loanee.

“I always plan to do a little celebration or something but when it goes in the net I can’t think, I just run over to the crowd.

“ It was a brilliant feeling especially in front of all of them.

“I’m hoping to score as many goals as I can in the games that are left, and if it’s against Walsall again then maybe so.

“We’ve got a lot of people up front and on the wings who can score goals so we’ll leave it down to them as well.”

Brownhill bagged his first Barnsley goal in the excellent 3-1 away win against the Saddlers in March with a delightful dipping effort.

His effort put the Reds ahead in the game, and the three points saw them rise into the top six for the first time.

Fast forward two months and Walsall are the visitors to Oakwell on Saturday, and Brownhill is confident his side have what it takes to beat Jon Whitney’s men over the two-legged semi-final showdown.

He added: “We’ve got a lot of work to do on the training pitch now, we’ve got two big games against Walsall. But if we play like we did against Wigan we can go and do a job.

“I think the way we played against Walsall away at their place, especially in the second half, if we replicate that in both the legs we play them then I don’t see why we can’t go through.

“Not a lot of people get to play at Wembley once and for us to maybe get a chance to go there again is a great feeling.”
