A South Yorkshire food bank has been given a festive boost after more than £1,000 worth of goods were donated by staff at Barnsley Council to help local charities.

Tinned goods, nappies and other essential items were included in the donation to Barnsley Food Bank Partnership, as well as selection boxes and toys.

Another £350 of items were also collected for Barnsley Starter Packs charity, which provides essential household items for former homeless people moving into a home.

Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesman for communities, said: “It is wonderful that at this very poignant time of year so many people have generously donated so many items to help people in need. Barnsley Food Bank has helped over 4,000 people since October 2013.”
