Barnsley: Cauley Woodrow backed to shine on his return

The striker, who joined in August from Fulham and replaced Tom Bradshaw, has yet to pull on the red shirt after picking up a muscle injury in one of his first training sessions at his new club.

Woodrow is still two weeks away from fitness and boss Daniel Stendel says they have had to show patience in his recovery.

But the German is also backing the 23-year-old to come through his frustrating start to life at Oakwell.

Stendel said: 'It is very hard for him. He is strong enough with his mentality that when he comes back and plays for Barnsley, he can show what he can do.

'At the moment we are disappointed, but we are happy he is here. He is a good guy. When I talk with him I have a very good impression of him.

'He started training last week, but we have to learn that it was too early. We need more patience with him.

'I am not satisfied that he cannot play at the moment.'

That means he will be unavailable for Saturday's visit of Burton, who were also relegated from the Championship last season.

Nigel Clough's men have made a more circumspect start to the campaign, picking up 10 points from their opening eight games.

Stendel, who is hoping the Reds can return to winning ways after losing their unbeaten record last week at Coventry, believes his side are better than the Brewers and has urged them to prove it.

He added: 'They are a very physical team and also have a very good mentality. They know what they want and we hope we can show what we want.

'I think it is a very interesting game on Saturday and I hope we win the game.

'I hope we are better, I think we are better, and I hope we can show that on the pitch.'

There is better news on the injury front, with the return of Zeki Fryers and Ryan Hedges to training and both could be involved in the matchday squad at Oakwell.

Brad Potts is also closing in on a return from a thigh injury but will not feature this weekend while Lloyd Isgrove joins Woodrow in the treatment room.
