Barnsley caretaker Heckingbottom delighted by derby win over Doncaster Rovers
The Tykes’ hard earned 1-0 win was their fifth straight victory on home soil.
“We definitely deserved it,” said Heckingbottom.
“I felt we should have been in front at half time, but speaking to the lads at half time, we felt we had not shown the quality that we have got in the final third.
“We had great opportunities, some of which didn’t even result in shots. We got in good positions, without making the most of them. We wanted to be more clinical.
“In the second half, we were still a little bit wasteful and had to wait until the last ten or fifteen minutes to get our winner.
“I felt the winner would come,” he added.
“We felt we were on top and we were trying to stress that to the players in terms of the substitutions we made and the information we were giving them.It was all about being positive and going for it.
“Sometimes you have to be happy with a point but we felt we were in the ascendancy and we had to push for the winning goal and luckily, we got it.”
Barnsley are sweating on the fitness of Aidy White. The defender was taken to hospital after being stretchered off following a challenge by Conor Grant.
