Barnsley boss hopes new striker Cauley Woodrow can hit ground running at Oakwell

 

Woodrow arrived at Oakwell on Friday evening, joining on loan from Fulham in a move that will become permanent in January.

He was signed as Tom Bradshaw's replacement, following the latter's £1million move to Millwall, but the deal was not done in time for him to feature in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Scunthorpe.

With no midweek fixture for the Reds, the 23-year-old will have a full week of training and is primed to make his debut at home to Gillingham on Saturday.

On Woodrow's absence at Glanford Park, Stendel said: 'It was the problem that he was not registered in time.

'He could not play. It was not so good, we hoped he would play today, but we could not change it.

'He is what we need from a striker. I hope he scores and makes the team better. I think in the future we want to see this.'

Barnsley proved that even without Bradshaw or Woodrow they still know where the back of the net is as they preserved their unbeaten start to League One by coming from two goals down in the second half to earn a point at Glanford Park.

Having Kieffer Moore in the side helps as the big striker made it four goals for the week and 17 in 27 in this league since the start of last season, which included a loan spell across South Yorkshire at Rotherham.

But Saturday's leveller came from an unlikely source as Dimitri Cavare made up for giving an earlier penalty away to crash in a superb 25-yard strike.

It came moments after Stendal had decided to send him out the left and the German predicted what might happen.

'Before we changed (Jacob) Brown at the right side and put Dimi on the left side, I said to him, 'You go on the left side',' Stendel revealed.

'He didn't want it in the first moment, but I said, 'You can go inside and shoot'. And he listened to me which is good.'
