The 24-year-old Darfield, Barnsley southpaw takes on Marcus Ffrench, who is nine years his senior, at Birmingham Arena.

Ffrench is the home fighter but Barrett is up for the task - trainer Stefy Bull tweeting that his man was “in great shape...ready to go.”

Barrett hasn’t lost a fight since 2013 and has won his last eight contests. This is his first professional fight outside of Yorkshire and his 16th in all.

He won the Central Area title at 9st 9lbs last year.

The pair are on a show headlined by the Birmingham derby between welterweights Frankie Gavin and Sam Eggington.

Middleweight Adam Jones from Denaby Main is on the card, taking on unbeaten Lennox Clarke from Halesowen. Jones has won only twice in his last 13 attempts.“From what I know he is game and comes to win,” Clarke told firstclassboxing.com.

“It’s going to competitive. Jones hasn’t boxed beginners, only experienced kids, so I know I won’t win every second of every round.

“He’s gone the distance with the likes of Jason Welborn and Craig Cunningham, so I’ve seen him in action first hand.”
