Andy Yiadom has left Barnsley

The full-back joined the ranks at Oakwell two seasons ago after leaving League Two club Barnet.

At the time of signing his two-year deal the Reds were in League One, but Yiadom was propelled to the Championship after Barnsley’s famous Wembley play-off win.

Yiadom developed into one of the best right-backs in the second tier under the watchful eye of former boss Paul Heckingbottom - earning himself Ghana caps in the process.

And with his contract expiring in June, Yiadom has penned a deal - believed to be four years - with Paul Clement’s Royals to keep himself in the Championship.

After confirming the switch, Yiadom said: “I’ll forever be in debt to Barnsley for taking me into the Championship and letting me show what I can do on a big platform.

“I’m truly grateful and although it didn’t end how we all wanted it to [relegation to League One], I have some great memories.

“The time is right for me to move on, and take on another opportunity. Thanks for everything and I’ll be keeping an eye out [on results].

“The fans have been amazing from the first minute to the last. I’ll miss every single member of the club, from the coaching staff to the players and the office staff.

“And a very special mention to the late Patrick Cryne who first spotted me and got me to Barnsley.”

Barnsley have announced their retained list for next season and have released 15 players.

Alongside Yiadom, first-team players Adam Hammill and Matt Mills have been let go as well as ostracised keeper Nick Townsend, who broke a finger in a training-ground bust-up earlier in the season.

Youngsters Adam Lund, Louis Rowe, Will Alderton, Sam Lomax, Tom Clare, Robbie Simpson, Sam Tingle, Brad Ash, Shaun Tuton, Wilberforce Ocran and Kane Swinburn will also be leaving the club during the summer.

The club have offered deals to young keeper Jack Walton, who played in the last three games of the season, Young Player of the Year Ben Williams, Romal Palmer, Will Smith, Amir Berkovits, Cameron Simpson and Louis Wardle.

A club statement read: “Barnsley Football Club would like to thank the departing players for their efforts and contributions to the cause throughout their time at Oakwell.”
