Barnsley 1 Huddersfield 1:

With banned manager Paul Heckingbottom watching from the stand, Barnsley battled back superbly to earn a draw in a pulsating Yorkshire derby against third-placed Huddersfield Town.

The Reds were forced to defend heroically at times as the Terriers’ six-match winning streak was halted.

There was only one team in this game in the first half at a blustery Oakwell.

Huddersfield looked every inch automatic promotion contenders with a high quality performance featuring brute strength and plenty of guile.

They went in front courtesy of a straightforward strike, however, as German defender Michael Hefele stooped to powerfully head home Aaron Mooy’s out-swinging corner-kick.

Mooy himself had earlier gone close with a deflected strike, while Reds ‘keeper Adam Davies produced a brilliant double stop to thwart Izzy Brown and Mooy.

The Reds’ best chance during a largely dismal opening period came via Angus MacDonald, whose flicked header from Marc Roberts’ long throw-in was comfortably saved by Danny Ward.

The Reds came close to a leveller straight after the restart when Terriers defender Chris Schindler almost sliced Ryan Kent’s cross into his own net.

Huddersfield responded with sub Jon-Gorenc Stakovic forcing a fine reaction save from Davies.

It was 15 minutes from time when the Reds levelled, and a great goal it was.

Sub Adam Hammill clipped in a great cross for Marley Watkins, who volleyed home neatly from an acute angle.

After that Roberts was superb in hacking Brown’s effort off the line, while Davies saved superbly from Collin Quaner.
