Barnslet pensioner housebound after scooter theft

A mobility scooter has been stolen from an outhouse in Barnsley - leaving a pensioner housebound.

Police said the scooter was taken when a lock was forced on Grange Road, Brierley.

Kathleen Hardwick, aged 84, had been bought her scooter as a gift by her husband Sidney, 88, who also needs a mobility scooter to get around.

They say their outhouse has now been broken into three times - a spin dryer, lawnmower and gardening equipment were stolen in previous raids.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “It is reported the outbuilding lock has been forced, and it is believed unknown offenders have taken a mobility scooter.”

The theft happened overnight on Friday, July 26.
