Bard of Barnsley rambles on for charity

SOUTH Yorkshire-based children’s charity SAFE@LAST is calling for supporters to join poet Ian McMillan for a sponsored Rhyming Ramble along the borders of Barnsley and Rotherham.

Ian, known as the Barnsley Bard, will lead the ramble, a sponsored walk taking place in Wentworth on Saturday, July 7.

The ramble is a fundraiser for the charity which provides services to young people at risk through running away.

Meeting in the village of Wentworth, the Barnsley Bard will lead the trip, regaling tales of Wentworth’s rich historical past through poetic rhyme.

The ramblers will also look out for sites of interest along the way including the Roundhouse, Forge and Wentworth Woodhouse stately home, a Grade I-listed building with the longest facade in Europe.

Those taking part will then be invited to use all this inspiration to write poetry.
