Bar’s late hours bid criticised

Have your say

Green councillors have attacked a decision to extend opening hours for a city centre bar despite council officers witnessing ‘serious incidents’.

Problems witnesses at Soyo, on Rockingham Street, included forcible ejection triggering the firm alarm, threatening behaviour, arguments on the street and urinating in doorways.

Green Party central ward councillor, who objected to the application to open as late as 2.30am on noise grounds, said: “Rockingham Street is a residential area with large apartment blocks close to the bar. In my view this is an astonishing decision.”
