A FORMER chairman of Barnsley Football Club has been disqualified from acting as a company director for seven-and-a-half years.
Peter Ridsdale, aged 60, of Carnforth, Lancashire, has been banned from managing or in any way controlling a company until April 2020, following his conduct as a director of WH Sports Group.
His wife Sophie, 45, a co-director of WHSG, has been disqualified for three-and-a-half years.
WHSG traded between 2003 and 2007 and was used by Mr Ridsdale to provide sports and leisure consultancy services to football clubs.
The company went into liquidation in April 2009, with assets of £22,592 and liabilities of at least £478,698.
Claire Entwistle, The Insolvency Service director of Company Investigations North, said: “As someone who has had many directorships, Mr Ridsdale ought to be aware of the responsibilities that come with such a position.”
Ridsdale has also been involved with Leeds United, Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle football clubs.
