A burglar wearing a balaclava fled a Sheffield house empty-handed after being disturbed by the homeowner.

The incident happened at 4.30am on Thursday morning on Birley Moor Road, Frecheville, when the occupant was awoken by the sound of someone downstairs.

Police said the homeowner went into the living room and noticed a masked man in their conservatory.

A police spokesman said: “The occupant has shouted at the male and they have fled the scene through the broken patio door. A panel had been kicked out of the door after the anti-snap locks did their job.”
