Award for town's young inspectors

The council’s Young Insepctors, which was set up late year to give recommendations to services about how they can better serve young people, reached the finals of a national awards ceremony.

The group, which represents volunteers aged 13-24, were nominated for the ‘Youth Volunteering and Social Action’ award in the national Children and Young People Now awards.

They just missed out on the top spot, and were instead presented with a high commendation for their impressive progress just 18 months since their inception.

Young Inspectors co-ordinator Ashlea Harvey said: “We were very pleased to have been awarded such a high commendation. It’s an award for the young inspectors themselves, not just us as a team who supports them. The programme is really progressing since we began 18 months ago and we’re proud with what we’ve achieved.”

The ‘Young Inspectors’ were set up in May 2015 with the aim of making sure Children and Young People’s Services are meeting quality standards, and that the voices of children and young people, including the most vulnerable, are listened to.
