Award time but just another day for Sheffield

SHEFFIELD FC officials will be receiving VIP treatment at Wembley as they collect their FA Charter Standard national club of the year award ahead of England's European qualifier against Estonia tomorrow but for manager Dave McCarthy and his assistant Lee Walshaw it will be business as usual.

They will be at the Bright Finance Stadium looking to plot a fifth league win in six games against Kidsgrove Athletic.

Sheffield’s fine 3-0 win at one of the promotion favourites Colwyn Bay, was their fourth away from home without defeat and took them back up to third in the table.

However, Clubs’ two league defeats have both come at home. Kidsgrove’s good start the season has been undone by a run of one win in the last five which has seen them slip into the bottom half of the table.

Stocksbridge Park Steels make their second league visit to Cammell Laird. It is all part of the UniBond league’s one-off mini-league format comprising of two groups of nine teams each.

Steels will want to avenge a 3-1 defeat on the opening day of the season against a Cammell Laird side second in the table with seven wins from nine. Boss Gary Marrow is likely to hand a league debut to left winger Alvin Riley, who has re-joined the club from Buxton as Stocksbridge look to extend their run to one defeat in the last six and close in on the play-off places.

Leaders Retford United saw their run of seven straight league wins ended with a 2-1 home defeat against Nantwich Town. Despite the setback the Badgers remain three points clear at the top and they will look to consolidate that position with victory at Alsager Town who are without a win in the last two.

In the Premier Division, Buxton will be looking to extend their unbeaten away record to six games at Ilkeston Town.

The hosts have not scored in six of their 13 league outings this season while Buxton have failed to find the back of the net only once in seven away outings in all competitions and a win for the visitors would see them leapfrog over 13th placed Ilkeston.
