MIDWIVES at Barnsley Hospital are celebrating being shortlisted for a Royal College of Midwifes Award.
The hospital is competing in the ‘Maternity Services of the Year’ category, against The Ipswich Hospital and Powys Teaching Health Board.
Sue Gibson, head of midwifery at Barnsley Hospital, said: “It is a real honour. We constantly strive to give women the support and services they need to have a healthy pregnancy and birth.”
Midwifery services in Barnsley have a higher than average normal delivery rate thanks to initiatives including active birth sessions, out of hours clinics for working women, flu vaccines in antenatal clinics, an exercise referral scheme to Barnsley Premier Leisure, and a hypno birthing service.
Winners will be announced in January.
