Authors help launch children's event

TWO big name children's authors were today joining Doncaster's youngsters to launch the Doncaster's Children's Book Awards.

Authors Celia Rees and Andrew Cope were joined at the event at Doncaster Civic Theatre by other guests including Doncaster Central MP Rosie Winterton.

Mr Cope was winner of last year’s award for his book Spy Dog 2.

The Doncaster Children’s Book Award is the only one in the country where there is no adult say as to what goes on the long list.

The original list is based on the most borrowed books in Doncaster’s libraries, and whittled down by the votes of borough youngsters.

MP Ms Winterton said: “I am happy to be at the launch of this year’s Doncaster Book Award, which is a great event for children. It encourages them to read and discover books that they enjoy and I hope more local children get involved this year.

Most primary and secondary schools are taking part.
