Author uses autism as basis of first book

A Sheffield woman who grew up with an autistic younger brother has used the condition as the basis of her first novel.

Lauren Woodcock, aged 28, from Chapeltown, wrote ‘Those Who Will Not See’ based on her first hand experiences of how autism affects families.

The mum-of-two, who works as a speech and language therapist at Doncaster School for the Deaf with children and young adults with hearing impairment, autism and learning difficulties, said she hopes it helps people understand the condition.

Lauren said: “This is a story that pulls on a lot of my own personal experiences of growing up with a family dealing with autism, plus my time as a therapist working with autistic young people. Often it’s not the issue with the young person themselves, but the impact on a family, which can be huge.”

The book is available through Amazon.
