DONCASTER’S miners are being targeted for recruitment - in Australia.
One of the leading independent coal producers down under is inviting miners from South Yorkshire to cross the globe to take up jobs in the southern hemisphere.
Staff from the company are visiting the Park Inn Hotel, Doncaster, on Tuesday to tout jobs at one of their collieries in New South Wales.
South Yorkshire has only two pits remaining, Hatfield and Maltby. But Whitehaven Coal is hosting events at 1pm and 6pm to offer jobs at Narrabri North mine in New South Wales, Australia.
Whitehaven staff will give an overview of the job opportunities available, as well as details of the recruitment process and the support and deals available to UK candidates.
Gerry McDonald, head of HR at the Narrabri North development, said: “We are delighted to be offering miners across South Yorkshire this unique opportunity to come along and find out just what Whitehaven can offer them and their families, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming them to the event at the Park Inn Hotel.
“Whitehaven is a real emerging force in the Australian coal mining industry, with the Narrabri North mine in particular a truly modern, technologically-advanced underground operation. We have a significant lack of skilled miners in the region which is why we have taken the decision to come over to the UK to showcase the opportunities available and to take advantage of the wealth of experience here.
“We have a number of positions on offer for experienced underground miners including mining officials, tradespeople and operators, and are looking for motivated and dedicated people who are ready for a truly life changing opportunity.” Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Ellie Breen on 07771 346884 to reserve a place.
