While nothing is set in stone, Kell Brook’s camp are working on a welterweight unification bout between Sheffield’s IBF ruler and WBO belt-holder Jesse Vargas, possibly at Bramall Lane.

Brook hasn’t boxed a big name opponent since winning the title in August 2014, with negotiations with several fighters, including Amir Khan, breaking down.

Khan has now conclusively ruled out a future meeting with the unbeaten Ecclesall man.

It is well past time to move on, for the Brook camp.

And Vargas’s manager Cameron Dunkin said British promoters Matchroom had made his man an offer.

“We’ve just been negotiating back and forth. We’re just waiting to see if we can get it done.” he said.

Boxingxcene.com said Vargas might be tempted by his “first seven-figure payday” should he fight Brook.
“Asked if he recognised the terms to be in his client’s favour, Dunkin replied: “I think it’s very fair, yes.”

He added: “I believe they are talking about the last Saturday (in August) in England” said Dunkin.
