'˜Auditions' held for 50 jobs at new Sheffield restaurant

A Caribbean restaurant and bar due to open its doors in Sheffield this summer is holding themed '˜auditions' to recruit 50 staff members this month.

Turtle Bay is set to open in the former NUM headquarters building off Barkers Pool in the city centre in June and it will deliver themed food and drinks to a reggae soundtrack.

Work is ongoing to transform the building in a £5 million project after a legal tussle with the city council over the use of the building’s stairs to carry food was cleared up.

When complete, the chain will be one of three new food outlets in the building, including Pitcher and Piano and a third as yet unnamed restaurant.

Later this month special auditions with a Caribbean twist are to be held on Wednesday April 25, and Thursday April 26, at The Workstation next to the Showroom Cinema.

Potential staff, including in management roles, will be asked to get into the spirit with island inspired tasks and challenges.

Elijah Hunter-Finn, openings project manager from Turtle Bay, said: “The auditions are an exciting couple of days and a really fun way of getting in tune with the spirit of Turtle Bay.

“We can’t wait to meet the interviewees from the Sheffield area as we gear up for our opening.”

n More than a hundred real ales, craft beers and ciders will be on offer at the University of Sheffield Students’ Union Beer and Cider Festival next month.

A range of great food and live music will also be available during the three day event which runs at the Students’ Union building in Western Bank from May 4 to 6.

Located just outside the city centre ring road in the Students’ Union gardens, the Raynor Lunge at the Student’s Union in Western Bank and Bar One - organisers say this year’s festival promises to be better than ever.

Special attractions will include a pop-up beer shop, guest taps and beer tastings courtesy of Hop Hideout.

There will be Meet the Brewer talks and Q&A from leading Sheffield breweries, live music, street food stalls and a pop-up gin and cocktail bar. The festival is free and runs from 2pm to 12am.
