A MAN due to have been deported to Cameroon after five years in Sheffield has had his flight cancelled following an appeal to the High Court.

Bernard Mboueyeu, who fled his homeland in 2007 claiming he was at risk for supporting a political group opposed to the ruling regime, married Sheffield charity worker Sharon in 2010 and the couple live in Wincobank.

The Home Office wants to deport Bernard for him to apply for a spouse’s visa in Cameroon to allow him to continue to live in the UK.

Bernard offered to return to his home country if his safety could be guaranteed, but the Home Office refused to make assurances.

His case has been adjourned for about three weeks for his case to be examined.

Bernard is hoping to be granted bail.
