A MAN has appeared in court accused of carrying out a serious assault on a South Yorkshire street.
James Kelly, aged 38, of Blythe Street, Wombwell, was remanded in custody at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court, charged with malicious wounding.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was rushed to Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital for emergency treatment after he was found injured on Wombwell High Street.
The man’s condition is improving and doctors said it was now ‘serious’ rather than life threatening. The incident happened at around 9pm on Tuesday, and the injured man was discovered near Tesco Express on High Street.
Kelly will appear before magistrates again in November, when the case will be committed to Crown Court.
