Roundabout look for new service

THE Diary is always the last to criticise the First bus company but the latest switch on the 82 line has left a colleague perplexed.

His route from Ecclesall to the city centre had always entailed a straight-forward ride down Ecclesall Road South into the city. Not any more.

Now his route takes him away from the city centre - and then back in again. The early morning 82 timetable now means he goes from Ecclesall, through Bents Green, across High Storrs, into Greystones, and then on to Ecclesall Road before heading into the city. Which is a roundabout route in anyone's book (and twice as long).

Ryder Cup date for Lees Hall!

GOLF'S famous Ryder Cup will be at Lees Hall Golf Club tomorrow. No need to double-check your sporting diaries, it's the trophy not the competition.

It will be at the course for a golf day organised by member John Taylor, to mark the centenary both of the club and his family hairdressing business.

"One of my regular clients has arranged for the cup to be here. It's a first for Sheffield," says John.

The cup will be on display at the clubhouse for most of the day and proceeds from the golf day will go to Weston Park.

If you want to know what it looks like, here's European captain Nick Faldo with it earlier this year.
