Arrests made in benefit fraud operation in Sheffield

Three people have been arrested in Sheffield following an operation to tackle benefit fraud.

Police officers and officials from the Department of Work and Pensions carried out six warrants at properties in the Burngreave and Page Hall areas of the city yesterday.

It follows an joint operation between South Yorkshire Police and the DWP to tackle alleged benefit fraud.

Officers visited homes in Granby Road, Winn Grove, Smelterwood Place, Spital Hill, Grimesthope Road and Standish Gardens. Three people, two men aged 49 and 32 and a woman aged 59, were arrested and are helping the DWP with enquiries.

Safer Neighbourhood Inspector Chris Lewis said any information about benefit fraud will be investigated quickly.

He said: “We work closely with our partners to ensure any information about potential benefit fraud is acted on swiftly and appropriately.

“Anyone with information about benefit fraud, or any crime, should contact police and we will take the necessary action. You can also pass information anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.”
