Armed police officers are to be involved in a crackdown on 'serious criminality' in Sheffield today.

Details of what officers have been tasked with have not yet been revealed but South Yorkshire Police said armed officers, detectives and the Broomhall and Sheffield Central neighbourhood policing teams are involved.

Superintendent Paul McCurry released brief details of today's operation on Twitter.

He said: "Tackling serious criminality this morning across Sheffield with armed officers."
