Armed police in hunt for suspect involved in stabbing in Rotherham

Armed police are involved in a search for a suspect wanted over a stabbing in Rotherham this morning.

Officers were alerted to an attack in a property in Hounsfield Road, East Herringthorpe, at 6.20am.

They said a man in his 20s was taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

He has since been discharged.

Chief Superintendent Jason Harwin said armed officers were involved and claimed there was ‘no immediate risk to the public’.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called at around 6.20am this morning to reports of an assault in a property in the East Herringthorpe area of Rotherham.

“A man in his 20s was taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries, believed to have been caused by a bladed weapon. He has now been released.

“Officers remain in the Hounsfield Road area while they carry out initial enquiries and search for the suspect.

“This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider community.”
