Armed Forces and Veteran's Day march through Sheffield

Residents are invited to celebrate and pay tribute to our Armed Forces past, present and future at the event that takes place from 11.30am.

Join the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Cllr Denise Fox, to honour the outstanding contribution made by current members of the armed forces and by veterans of all ages, with a military parade, live music, displays from Sheffield Armed Forces and Cadets, careers advice and plenty of fun with a series of 1940’s themed entertainment.

Watch the veteran’s parade and ceremony, dance up a storm to the Ashby Big Band in the Peace Gardens - accompanied by Sheffield’s very own Singing Major, and enjoy the sweet sound of close harmony trio “The Bobby Pins”.

The veterans will gather from 11.30am in Norfolk Row before the parade begins at 11.50am, taking in Norfolk Row, Fargate, Town Hall Square and the Peace Gardens, followed by a ceremony from 12noon, led by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield.

Councillor Tony Damms, Sheffield City Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “This day is all about paying tribute to those who serve our country and risk their lives to protect our freedom.

“Our annual Armed Forces and Veterans Day is a very popular event with people of all ages, and gives communities from Sheffield and beyond the chance to show their support for serving officers and veterans from all conflicts.

“I hope that families will come into Sheffield city centre this Saturday for what is sure to be a very special event.”

The Ashby Big Band featuring The Singing Major will play from 12.30-1.20pm and 2.20-3.10pm.

Between 1.30-2.15pm and 3.15-4.00pm The Bobby Pins, a close harmony trio based in Sheffield will be performing in the Peace Gardens. Inspired by The Andrew Sisters, Debra, Gina and May love the music from this era and put their own quirky spin on some of the 40’s and 50’s classic nostalgic tunes.

Fargate plays host to our armed forces and reserve services as they show off their skills and offer you the opportunity to join in between 11.00am and 4.00pm.

This year’s event forms part of the activities being held to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme offensive which began on the 1 July 1916.
