The band’s much loved I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor has been re-recorded by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra for a show called the Great Northern Playlist which will be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 tonight.

Ten BBC local radio stations in the north of England set the orchestra a challenge – to cover 10 of the most iconic songs from across the North, as suggested by listeners.

The 80-piece orchestra had two weeks to write, record and perform each cover with individual parts recorded from the musician's own home and then edited together.

Rozina Breen, head of BBC North, said: "The BBC Philharmonic is a northern institution and to hear it connect directly with our diverse communities across the North will be very special.

"The North has produced some of the world's best bands, musicians and songwriters and our aim is to bring communities in crisis together creatively, through music, with a celebration of our shared and world-renowned musical heritage."

A special edition of BBC Radio 2’s Sunday Night Is Music Night will feature 11 of the most iconic songs from the North of England – all performed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra from 7pm to 9pm.
