MEMBERS of the Hillsborough Independent Panel were shown 98 records from Sheffield Archives plus scores of photographs while drawing up their report.

Sheffield’s Archives Service provided items ranging from newspaper reports to council papers and minutes, MPs’ correspondence and even a record of church services fat Sheffield’s Anglican and Catholic cathedrals or those who died.

There were also news broadcasts from BBC Radio Sheffield, Sheffield University studies, magazine and journal articles about the disaster passed to the panel.

Details of how the archive service helped are revealed in a report to South Yorkshire Joint Advisory Committee on Archives.
