£1m lottery cash boost

Doncaster organisations received over £1 million in grants in the latest round of Big Lottery Grant money.

Higher Rhythm Recording Studio, Sine FM community radio station and the Doncaster Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Service were among the biggest winners in the latest round of National Lottery grants.

Doncaster Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Service received £465,863 to continue to support men and women aged over 18 who have experienced rape and sexual abuse.

It will provide specialist counselling in a safe and confidential environment.

Clients will also be offered therapy to help them to overcome memories until they no longer have a negative impact on day to day life.

Higher Rhythm Recording Studio and Sine FM community radio station received £379,838 for the expansion of a project to support people who are facing disadvantage to access training, development and volunteering opportunities in media, radio and music technology.

It will provide people with new and transferable skills, with progression into accredited courses, to help them get into work.

The group will work with people to agree individual learning plans and help them achieve their goals, and signpost people to other services.

Clouds Community Counselling Service received £180,000 to pay for three projects in East Doncaster.

One of the key areas will enable the practice to continue the valuable work with members of the community suffering from Bereavement to help them move forward and put energy back into their living.

They will also work with all ages above 13 years of age with any issue which is causing the client distress and difficulty, including anxiety and depression, relationship issues, loss of confidence, low self-esteem amongst others offering longer term care.

Thirdly, they will work with people to help them to learn to manage their feelings better.

Doncaster Book Awards Ltd, Carcroft Primary School Doncaster Mind all received smaller awards of less an £10,000 for projects they plan to run.
