Apprenticeships available for engineers of the future at South Yorkshire tech hub

The futuristic technology at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Rotherham, close to the Sheffield border, was a key factor in luring the supermarket giant McLaren to the region.

Young people considering a career in engineering have been invited to visit the AMRC Training Centre there to find out more about the opportunities available.

Visitors will be able to learn more about the apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships on offer, with positions due to start as soon as next month.

Apprenticeships beginning this March cover subject disciplines in areas such as mechanical maintenance, design, machining, electrical maintenance and welding, which could lead to further university studies.

Dan Swift, the centre's programme manager, said: "By holding a recruitment event in March it enables young people who perhaps now realise that the further education path they have chosen doesn’t suit their style of learning and would now like to consider an alternative education route.

"We work with a large number of companies of varying sizes and recruiting traditional academic time frame isn’t right for all of them."

"An apprenticeship via the AMRC Training Centre enables young people to climb up the academic ladder and earn while they learn without the burden of student debt, whilst gaining valuable on the job experience within the engineering / manufacturing sector."

The open day will take place at the AMRC Training Centre, at the Advanced Manufacturing Park, off Highfield Spring, Catcliffe, Rotherham, from 9.30am to 6.30pm.
