Apprentices lend a hand to help group

A SHEFFIELD scout group has seen its premises given a new lease of life - thanks to the efforts of three apprentices.

The trainees, working for Sanctuary Housing, carried out work at 231st Shiregreen Scout Group’s hut.

As part of their training, the apprentices installed a modern, functional kitchen that the scouts could use during weekly meetings and when working towards their badges.

Danny Levick, 231st Shiregreen Scout Troop leader, said: “A key life skill that social groups, like the scouts, are keen to develop in their young members is their cooking ability.

“No matter what our scouts go on to achieve in their futures, being able to cook a healthy meal is a skill that will stay with them throughout their lives.”

Adrian Cheetham, Sanctuary’s north operations manager for maintenance, said: “The scouts have been around for generations, helping young people experience new challenges whilst learning valuable life skills.

“So when the opportunity arose to help refurbish their kitchen, our lads were more than willing to get involved.”
