RETAIL skills academy The Source has celebrated its first decade with an awards ceremony to mark the achievement of its students from over the years.
The training centre, at Meadowhall, provides courses to help people learn how to set up their own business or work in shops.
Current and former students and course leaders were joined by special guest Claire Young, finalist in the 2008 series of The Apprentice, for the 10th birthday celebrations.
Claire said: “When The Source approached me to host their 10th birthday event, I gladly accepted.
“The work they do with individuals and businesses is inspiring and it’s always great to see an organisation that has young people at the heart of its business.”
Other guests included Sheffield and Rotherham council leaders, Richard Wise the head of retail development at British Land which owns Meadowhall, and Brightside and Hillsborough MP David Blunkett who opened The Source in 2003.
Mike Denby, head of employer engagement at The Source, said: “We were absolutely thrilled that Claire was able to host the event as she is so passionate about apprenticeships and staff development.
“She is the perfect fit for our organisation.
“The event was a great success with hundreds of learners and businesses that have received support from The Source invited.”
As well as training courses for individuals, The Source provides training for businesses.
And The Source has expanded to create two more academies – on Surrey Place, Sheffield city centre, and High Street, Rotherham.
