An application has been submitted to Sheffield City Council’s planning department to create a new frontage on the unit, which has been boarded up for several years.

Documents sent to the council state that the unit has not previously been let due to its small amount of floorspace, but that a retail company is now interested in moving in.

In a letter from planning consultants NJL Consulting, Nick Pleasant states: “The majority of units are occupied - only unit eight has remained unoccupied largely due to the small quantum of floorspace. However, there is now tenant interest.

“The proposed shopfront will be in-keeping with surrounding units. The application provides clear benefits, such as bringing underutilised floorspace back into use, and job creation.”

The application will be considered by council planning staff at a later date.
