members of a historic motor club in Derbyshire are trying to trace a trophy which mysteriously went missing more than 50 years ago.

North Derbyshire Motor Club has made the appeal to trace the Brooks Trophy in the group’s centenary year.

The trophy, pictured right, was donated to the club by Chesterfield-based motorcycle dealer Maurice Brooks, in 1931.

Drivers battled for the trophy for more than 25 years, before it went missing 54 years ago, in 1958.

Members believe that the prize could now be in the Rotherham or Chesterfield area.

Norman Buck, club secretary, said: “We would dearly love to have the trophy back so people could compete for it again.

“So we’re appealing for anyone who has seen, or knows the whereabouts, of the trophy to contact us and we will make arrangements to have it collected.”

The club holds events where members use their ordinary road cars in trials throughout the year.

It also holds a series of off-road events.
