APPEAL: Can you help Sheffield woman to hit £1 million charity fundraising target this weekend?

The big-hearted Dore woman has been running the Sheffield Cards for Good Causes seasonal pop-up shop for the last two decades. The store sells Christmas cards, gifts, calendars and wrapping paper on behalf of more than 250 charities, with proceeds going to the good causes.

Mary and her team need to raise just £1000 over the next two days before her retirement on Saturday to hit £1 million sales since she started at the shop in 1996.

Sue Berridge, regional organiser for Cards for Good Causes who looks after shops across South Yorkshire, said: “After 20 years it would be a shame to miss out on the £1 million mark by just a few bob so please nip to the shop in Chapel Walk and help us reach the target by buying a card or one of the other products.”

Mary said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Cards for Good Causes over the past 20 years.

“I have had the privilege of working alongside some fabulous volunteers and colleagues to raise an incredible amount of money each year for charities here in Sheffield and across the UK.”

Regional charities that have benefitted from Cards for Good Causes sales in Sheffield include the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, the Sheffield Botanic Gardens Trust, Whirlow Hall Farm Trust and St. Luke’s Hospice.

It is believed Cards for Good Causes opened their first shop in Sheffield as the city store is registered as number 001.

The organisation now has more than 300 pop-up shops located around the UK.

The cause pays the participating charities at least 70p in every pound from their card sales.

It has just launched an online sale with cards still available to order in time for Christmas delivery.
