Appeal after Sheffield 88-year-old hit by distraction burglary

Police have launched an appeal after an 88-year-old Sheffield woman became the victim of a distraction burglary.

Officers were called to an address in Hemsworth Road just after 1.10pm on Wednesday.

It was reported a man went to the address claiming to work for the council offering free window locks.

The occupant, an 88-year-old woman, allowed the man into her home and he went upstairs with the victim to check the windows.

A short time later the man when back downstairs and let himself out of the house.

The victim noticed her purse was missing when she came back downstairs.

The man was white, in his 50s and wearing what is described as work clothes.

Anyone with information is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident 386 of March 25.
