Appeal after armed robbery at city store

A SHOP worker suffered a head injury after a masked thug armed with a handgun burst into a Sheffield convenience store and grabbed cash from the till.

The raid happened at the Hollinsend convenience store on Nodder Road, Woodthorpe, at 8.40pm on Wednesday night.

Police today appealed for information about the robbery.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “A male dressed in black clothing and wearing a face covering with skeleton markings, entered the store, and produced a handgun.

“The male then assaulted a shop assistant before grabbing the shop till and its contents. He fled from the store heading towards Woodthorpe Road.

She added: “Because of the incident, a male member of staff suffered a minor head injury, and was left very shaken.”

The suspect was described as being possibly in his late teens, dressed in a black coat and black tracksuit bottoms with stripes down the side of the legs, black trainers.

He was carrying a black or dark green rucksack.

Police said today they had since recovered the handgun

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect or anyone who witnessed the raid is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 990 of the January 4.
