PILES of rubbish blocked a Sheffield road after a dustcart spilled its load.
Sheffield Council contractor Veolia said it was the first incident of its kind in a decade and apologised for inconvenience to residents.
The incident happened at the junction between Palmer Road and Greenland Road, Darnall.
A Veolia spokeswoman said: “An incident took place that resulted in a bin lorry shedding part of its load in the street whilst stationary due to an operator error.
“The spillage was cleared quickly.
“We have refreshed procedures with our crews to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.
“Annually, we undertake over 10 million kerbside bin collections and this is the first incident of this nature in over 10 years. We take all health and safety issues very seriously and apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused.”
