Anxious wait for Sheffield Eagles star

Partnerships have been hard to come by this season for Sheffield Eagles, just ask experienced half-back Simon Brown.

The Eagles quest for consistency and momentum has been hampered by injuries at key times this season, with Brown the latest to visit the medical room just as half-back partner Cory Aston had returned to the fold.

With Brown set for a spell on the treatment table following a knee injury, the 28-year-old believes once the Eagles find their consistency it will give them the platform to push on.

“We need a spine working together. We have never had the same half-back pairing or the same full-back because of circumstances. It has been disrupted all season,” he explained. “That’s the same for the back row and in the centre. Little things like that are vital as you try and build a team understanding. As soon as we can get a more consistent structure then you will see more consistent performances.”

Brown, who made a dramatic return to the club after departing before the start of this campaign, is now awaiting the result of scans to determine the extent of the injury that forced him off in the first-half at Rochdale.

“We’ll have to see what they show up,” he added. “I felt a knock on the side, we are hopeful that it won’t be too bad. I don’t think we really put them to the sword last weekend like we should have done. We kept letting them back in and that is something we’ll look at but we got the job done.

“We did lose our way at times, but we must to learn from our mistakes and then try and have a good end to the year.”

Brown added: “We need to be a bit more ruthless between us, and that is individually and as a team. We need to kick on if we can now and if that happens we can make progress.”
