Another visit to specialist for Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Kieran Lee

Lee was one of nine senior players who missed Friday’s defeat to Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers due to injury.

The 29-year-old has been hampered by his troublesome hip throughout the season, making just 10 starts and five substitute appearances.

It will be the second time Lee, an integral figure in the Owls reaching back-to-back play-offs, has visited a specialist in the space of five months regarding the injury.

Goalkeeper Keiren Westwood and midfielder Barry Bannan (both groin) will also be assessed this week.

“We will see what happens over the next few days,” said head coach Carlos Carvalhal. “We will have some scans, and maybe they will be okay. Let’s see.”

Westwood and Bannan were pencilled to start against Wolves but were forced to withdraw because of their injuries.

Carvalhal said: “We prepared the team with Barry on Thursday. He was inside, he did everything and was going to play. But at the last moment of training, he jumped and felt a very strong. He was very bad at that moment and the physios took care of him.

“After one or two hours, he was better and we felt he would probably recover to play on Friday. But when he woke up on Friday, he felt very bad again so he couldn’t play.

“Westwood was also down to play. But after the warm up, he said he felt pain in the groin and that he couldn’t kick the ball.”

Wednesday, who have not won since November 4, remain 10 points adrift of the play-off positions after the weekend’s fixtures.
