Another £10K raised in memory of keen golfer Richard at charity event

The eighth annual Richard Waight Memorial Golf Day at Doncaster Golf Club raised more than £10,000 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and SADS UK.

Richard Waight, aged 23, who was a science teacher at Hayfield School and a Doncaster Golf Club member, died unexpectedly from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (or SADS) in 2009.

Following his death, his parents Ken and Jackie set up the Richard Waight Schools Golf Foundation to continue their son’s love for the sport and offer tuition to children.

The charity golf day was also launched in 2011 in his memory, and has raised over £63,000.

Ken Waight said: “It was yet another fabulous tribute to Richard.

“This year’s total again includes a substantial donation from St James Place, as well as sponsorship from Riverside Motors and several three figure sums from individuals.

“Money raised will be used to continue our defibrillators programme with SADS UK and our new work with CRY in sponsoring cardiac screening days for young people.

“A massive thank you to all of you who played, helped out or just supported us on yet another great day for all involved.”

Plans are already underway for next years event, which is due to be held on Friday May 17, 2019.
