MAJOR anniversary events are being held to mark four decades of a link between South Yorkshire and part of Germany.
Barnsley and the German town of Schwabisch-Gmund are celebrating 40 years since a twinning agreement and the town’s Central Library will be marking the event with a month-long promotion.
The programme will be launched at an event on June 18 from 11am until 1pm at the library on Shambles Street, which will include music from Worsbrough Brass Band and tasters of German food.
Members of the Twin Town Society will be on hand and Barnsley’s Local Studies Department will show memorabilia from the 40 years of twinning.
During the month there will also be a children’s competition and a display of German literature.
