Animal charity's urgent appeal as it faces closure

A South Yorkshire animal charity, struggling to make ends meet, has issued an urgent appeal for help, as it faces possible closure.

Albert’s Horse Sanctuary in Barnsley has been run by Mary Hepworth and her family since 2005, to care for animals who are no longer wanted and face being put down.

“My family and I never intended to run a sanctuary; our hearts ruled our heads and it just happened,” said Mary.

“In the past ten years, we have grown so fond of all our animals and carried on regardless of our health and finances, because we have unconditional love for these animals and they deserve the best.

“We know that we will not be able to keep going and continue to protect these animals unless we can get some help - from volunteers and from people willing to fundraise or donate and help us cover the extortionate costs of upkeep and expensive medicines.

“Everything we do is done on our own time and with our own money, with the kind generosity of the same people over and over again. We really need help and people to kindly donate a small amount every month to help with the ongoing expenses.

“I would like to thank everyone who reads The Star and who has supported us through our ups and mainly downs of the past ten years. We are really struggling and closer to losing everything that we ever have been.

“No matter how many times we say we aren’t going to take anymore animals in, we get another call and it’s difficult to say no. We don’t want to see healthy animals being put to sleep. But the harsh reality is we have vet bills to pay and the cold weather makes everything tougher. We need help, please.”

Call Mary on 07721 327879 if you can help.
