A LEADING South Yorkshire fishing tackle supplier is to have all its stock auctioned tomorrow after it was seized by bailiffs.
Tigra Fishing Tackle was based in Rawmarsh shopping centre, where it had a 3,000 sq ft showroom and operated an internet sales business as ‘The No 1 Online Fishing Store’.
But bailiffs seized the stock in lieu of unpaid rent on the firm’s premises.
The goods have been moved to industrial auctioneers CJM Asset Management at Scunthorpe, where they are to be sold in a public auction tomorrow.
CJM director Paul Cooper said: “Tigra were significant players in their field, supplying a huge range of fishing related products, including tackle by all the major manufacturers such as Carp, Nash, Shimano, Gardner and Pike. I’m not sure what went wrong. Many specialist independent high street shops are being hit by the challenge coming from internet retailers who have cheaper premises and lower overheads, but Tigra were also internet retailers.
“It could simply be the effects of the downturn in consumer spending. Perhaps fishermen are not upgrading and adding to their kit in the way they do in the good times.
“We’ve been sent a huge amount of kit - rods, poles, whips and reels, every imaginable accessory, trolleys, seats, platforms and clothing. We’ve even got substantial quantities of food and bait.
“In total we reckon the retail value of the stock is probably over £150,000, and it accounts for the first 625 lots in the auction.
“We have lotted the stock to give the private bidder as good a chance of netting a bargain as trade buyers.
“Most of the rods and reels are being sold individually, as is much of the clothing.
“The auction is expected to attract a lot of interest from across the region and people who are not able to get to the saleroom are able to leave commission bids ahead of the auction.”
n Viewing sessions are today until 7pm, and between 8.30am and 10am tomorrow. Catalogues can be downloaded from www.cjmasset.com free of charge.
