The home side had led by two goals at the break, Will Grigg notching the first with a cool finish before Haris Vuckic's clinical header.

It looked like game over for the visitors at the midway point of the second half after Chris McCann skipped his way through the defence to add number three. But the Blades battled back and Matt Done immediately pulled one back after good work from Billy Sharp.

Sharp himself reduced the arrears to just one with 15 minutes to go with a header and the comeback was complete in the 89th minute when Jussi Jaaskelainen made a superb save to deny Sharp, only for Done to fire home the rebound from close range.

Wigan remain fifth in the table and United stay seventh, three points shy of the play-off spots.

Coventry maintained their record as the only league team without a home defeat, but will feel they should have got more than a 1-1 draw at home against fellow promotion hopefuls Walsall.

The Sky Blues' goal came from an unlikely source as defender Chris Stokes headed home in the 35th minute, and for a long while it looked to be enough to bring victory.

But the visitors equalised 10 minutes from time when Tom Bradshaw volleyed home an angled shot after a cross from Rico Henry.

The top-of-the-table clash in League Two saw Northampton move level on points with Plymouth at the summit after a 2-1 win at Home Park.

James Collins and Marc Richards put the Cobblers in control before Gregg Wylde halved Argyle's deficit with seven minutes left.

However, the hosts could not find an equaliser and both teams now have 52 points, with Plymouth staying top on goal difference.

The other game in League Two saw Exeter come from behind to draw 1-1 at Morecambe.

Shaun Miller's penalty put the hosts ahead four minutes into the second half, but Jayden Stockley struck to level things up just five minutes later.
