Aldi recalls 38,000 packs of frozen veg after a customer found half a RAT in one

The supermarket has now launched an urgent investigation into the claim and issued a recall for the bags of mixed greens.

The recall comes after a grandmother told The Sun that she had discovered the rodent parts while feeding lunch to her two-year-old granddaughter.

Pat Bateman, 60, said that she only discovered the disgusting contents of the packet when she went to put it back in the freezer.

She told the Sun: "We felt physically sick after finding the rat. We had eaten almost all of the bag before we saw it - and what’s even worse - I fed it to my youngest granddaughter.

“It’s a wonder none of us ended up physically ill.”

She took the evidence back to her local Aldi in Cornwall where the manager apologised and offered her a £30 discount off her next food shop.

However, Pat said that she has now been offered £500 as compensation from the budget supermarket after deciding to send the pictures to Aldi head office.

The Sun have reported that an internal report found that there have been three complaints of 'pieces of small rodent being found in one batch of mixed vegetables'.

The product was removed on Sunday, January 5 and an investigation has now been launched to identify the cause of the incident.

Aldi said in a statement: "Following Mrs Bateman’s complaint, we removed this product from sale to prevent any further issues.

"We have suspended all orders from this production site whilst we investigate this matter."
